About Marilyn Coyote
Marilyn Coyote learned to cook from her mother in Ohio, continuing her study in Switzerland, Guatemala and Mexico City. At the age of twenty-three, Marilyn landed at Slide Ranch and discovered a passion for organic gardening and environmental education. She spent the next eleven years training and cooking at the San Francisco Zen Center and its mountain monastery, Tassajara. Propelled by her experiences both inside the kitchen and out in the garden, Marilyn developed the first organic garden and curriculum in any San Francisco school. Inspired by the vision of Alice Waters, Marilyn refined her culinary skills in two apprenticeships at Chez Panisse.
As chair of the major fundraising events for the San Francisco Arts Education Foundation and the Japanese Tea House and Garden at Green Gulch Farm, Marilyn has proven her capacity for planning, organization, and entertaining. With advanced degrees in Japanese tea ceremony and flower arranging and two certifications in yoga, Marilyn has dedicated herself to the exploration of the body, the natural world, and their connection through tea. She also delights in producing and hosting musical and literary events for herself and others, some of which have featured the New Century Chamber Orchestra and poet Jane Hirshfield. Marilyn's current work in the event business allows her to pursue her gift for bringing people together with style, originality, and culinary sophistication; Marilyn Coyote Events is the culmination of her commitment to the art of good living.
